TRICARE West Region Referral Waiver Ends June 30, 2025

The primary care manager referral approval waiver ends June 30. 

What does this mean for your care?

• Your care continues!
• If you already have an active referral for specialty care, you can keep getting care until September 30, 2025.
  • After that date, your primary care manager must submit a new referral for approval for certain specialty care.
  • Starting October 1, 2025, fees may apply if your specialist is not in network.
  • If you don't get a new referral, you may have to pay out-of-pocket costs.
• Starting July 1, 2025, your primary care manager must submit new referral requests to TriWest for approval for certain types of specialty care.

Helpful Tips:

• Your primary care manager knows when you need a referral. You can double-check using the Referral and Authorization Decision Support tool in the secure portal.
• You can also view the status of your referrals and authorizations in the West Region portal.

Avoid gaps in your care. Ask your primary care manager to submit a referral when it is needed.
